I Love Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany

This town is truly beautiful!  It is not too big but if you want to see and experience everything, a day is also not enough.  I have been to Rothenburg ob der Tauber many times. If I am  not mistaken,  my last visit was the 6th time already.  I just find it very interesting  especially with regards  to its historical architecture,  medieval setting and many interesting sights.

beautiful timbered-houses or buildings in Rothenburg od der Tauber during one of my visits. It is known for its medieval center (Altstadt), seemingly untouched by the passage of time, encircled by the undamaged 14th century town wall.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is located in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany. If you are familiar about the Romantische Strasse or Romantic Road, this town is also located in this most beautiful street in Bavaria.

Among the sites you can experience there are the Markplatz or the Market Square, the Town Hall, the Medieval Crime and Punishment Museum (Kriminalmuseum), St. Jakobskirche (Church of St. Jacob) and the the Plönlein. Don’t miss walking around the town wall and going up in one of its towers to have a wonderful view of the city. I did it in one of my visits.

I hope in my next visit there, I will experience the 60 min Night Watchman’s tour that runs nightly mid-March to December at 20:00.

Going there: If you are planning to take a train in, make sure you are buying a ticket to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. This is what I always tell to my friends because there are several other Rothenburg in Germany. The train station is east of the town wall, about a 15 min walk to the center Market Square (Marktplatz) of the historic center.
